ORIGIN / THE MISSING MINUTE
Mira Vey knows the city by its service stairs. The official routes belong to corporations; the narrow spaces between them belong to people who cannot afford to be seen. She delivers sealed messages and asks only two questions: where, and by when.
The capsule from Platform Nineteen breaks both rules. Its destination is a maintenance station that closed eleven years ago. Its deadline is 03:17:00 — a time the transit clocks have just skipped. When the seal warms against her palm, a recording plays in her own voice. She has never made it.
Mira could abandon the delivery. Instead, she takes the staircase down.
